This fixed dose is not indicated for initial therapy. Candesartan (kan-de-SAR-tan) belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain heart and kidneys resulting in a stroke heart failure or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. As a result candesartan relaxes blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt which can cause fluid retention. Hydrochlorothiazide treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure cirrhosis of the liver or kidney disorders or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen. This medication is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
