Candesartan (kan-de-SAR-tan) belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. It is sometimes given together with other blood pressure medications.Candesartan is also used to treat kidney problems caused by type 2 (not insulin-dependent) diabetes.
