Rosuvastatin is an enzyme blocker (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) also known as a "statin." It is used along with a proper diet to help lower fats (triglycerides) and cholesterol in the blood. This drug is usually prescribed after non-drug treatment options have not been fully successful at lowering cholesterol (e.g. diet change increase in exercise weight loss if overweight). Reducing cholesterol and triglycerides help prevent strokes and heart attacks. How to use Rosuvastatin OralTake this medication by mouth usually once daily with or without food or as directed by your doctor.Dosage is based on your medical condition response to therapy and use of certain interacting medicines. Many of the drugs (see Drug Interactions section) may increase the chance of muscle injury when used with this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.Do not increase your dose or take this medication more frequently than prescribed because this may increase your risk of serious side effects. Your doctor should prescribe the lowest effective dose of this medication for you to minimize this risk.Patients of Asian descent may require lower starting doses because they may be more sensitive to the drug.Antacids can decrease the absorption of this drug when taken at the same time. If you are taking an antacid take it at least 2 hours after rosuvastatin. If you also take certain other drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol) take rosuvastatin at least 1 hour before or at least 2 hours after these medications.Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to take it at the same time each day. It may take 2 to 4 weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high cholesterol or triglycerides do not feel sick.

Industry News : Marquette General Health System joins Premier healthcare alliance. Marquette General Health System of Marquette, Mich., has joined the Premier healthcare alliance, consisting of more than 2,500 hospitals and 76,000 other healthcare sites, to improve care delivery.
“We believe this new partnership will help improve the value of the health services Marquette provides to our community and look forward to furthering our work with Premier.”
As a Premier owner, Marquette leverages a national purchasing network delivering industry-leading contract pricing. The not-for-profit health system formerly utilized MedAssets as its national purchasing organization.
Marquette also collaborates and compares performance with other members of the alliance to improve care efficiency while safely reducing waste and costs using the nation's largest clinical, financial and operational database.
"Premier's business model is unique in that it is completely owned by its members and thus accountable to and fully aligned with their goals," said Gary Muller, president & CEO at Marquette. "We believe this new partnership will help improve the value of the health services Marquette provides to our community and look forward to furthering our work with Premier."
The health system participates in two Premier collaboratives for additional performance improvement opportunities.
As a new member of Premier's ASCEND® (Accelerated Supply Chain Endeavor) program, Marquette aggregates, monitors and analyzes supply chain data to identify improvement opportunities. This includes simplified and consistent purchasing processes, appropriate clinical utilization and specially negotiated contracts. Members of ASCEND have saved $56 million over two years, without sacrificing the quality of care.
To support its purchasing decisions, the health system uses Premier supply chain tools like SpendAdvisor® MySpend™, to easily examine spend data.
