Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria such as pneumonia; bronchitis; gonorrhea; and ear lung throat and urinary tract infections. Antibiotics will not work for colds flu or other viral infections. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g. common cold flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.Cefixime comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day or every 12 hours (twice a day) for 5-14 days. Gonorrhea may be treated in 1-10 days.
